PLANNING
Inspect each panel to insure that there are no defects, that the set is complete, and that you know the proper order of mounting. Decide where the map will be positioned on the wall—avoid placing panels over outlets, vents, or anything that would result in cutting the map. Since most walls and doorframes are not vertical, a plumb line is needed to align the first panel. Using a weighted string tacked near the ceiling (or a carpenter’s level) and a straightedge, draw a vertical light pencil line on the wall to mark where the right or left edge of the center panel will fall. Hold up the center panel to the wall to insure proper positioning and mark across the plumb line in pencil to indicate the top of the panel.

MOUNTING

A. Mounting Surface
A dry, clean, smooth surface is recommended for best results. Mounting surfaces covered with latex paint, vinyls, sanded glossy paint, plaster or old wallpaper should be sealed with a heavy duty latex primer. One of the recommended commercial brands is DURON® Tack-Prep™ Heavy Duty Latex Primer, as a wallcovering primer. Let the primer dry thoroughly!

B. Special Materials Needed
In addition to household items such as a tape measure, weighted string or carpenter’s level, stepladder, paste pot, and rinse bucket with sponge, you will need:
1 gallon – Heavy duty (clay base) wallcovering adhesive (thin out paste if needed)
7”roller – For paste application
Wallpaper brush
Razor knife – For professional application/butt seam only.

C. Make Ready Steps
Be sure all materials are on hand, then:
1. Remove any vents, electrical outlets or switch covers from wall.
2. Set up a pasting area, on a table in good lighting (which is essential when applying paste).
3. The objective is a thin, but thorough application of paste.

D. Mounting
Follow these simple steps: 1. Place the center panel image side down on the pasting area. Using the roller, spread paste thinly and evenly. Be sure to cover the entire panel, particularly the edges.
2. Place pasted panel against the wall starting at the top. When positioned, stroke downward and out toward sides with brush to eliminate bubbles and wrinkles (if they are too large, pull corner off wall and smooth again). Avoid horizontal strokes except at top and bottom of panels.
3. After mounting center panel, use a slightly dampened sponge to wipe paste from the surface and edges. Keep rinse water clean changing it after mounting each panel.
4. Mount the other two panels the same way, taking care to line up detail in the overlap.
5. While the paste is still moist use the razor and straightedge to trim paper top and bottom (if needed). Enjoy the new geographic look of your room!
